According to a script that has become 'normal' for a few months, BMW has organized an articulated digital world preview for the new generation 4 Series Coupe. And it did so by displaying two iconic models alongside the model that will arrive in dealerships in the coming October, such as the 328 from the 1930s and the 3.0 CS from the 1970s, real milestones in the fascinating history of the BMW coupes. The design studio of the BMW Group in Munich, the halls of the Classic sector and the testing center of the German company in Aschheim were chosen to host the event. "The new 4 Series Coupé captures the very essence of our brand - said Pieter Nota, member of the board of BMW AG with customer, brands and sales responsibilities - and it is an interpretation geared towards the brand's long-lasting DNA future". A task that the new 4 Series Coupe performs with a true aesthetic revolution, strongly inspired by the i4 concept.

The elongated proportions, which make it more dynamic, are the result of a length that has increased by 128 mm to 4,768 mm, a width increased by 27 mm to 1,852 mm and the step that has been brought 2,851 mm (+41 mm) . While the height increased by only 6 mm to 1,383 mm, the front track increased by 28 mm and the rear track by 18 mm making the 4 Series wider than the last generation of the 3 Series sedan and distancing the Coupé from the model to to which it derives.

"The new 4 Series shows the distinctive BMW proportions in their most modern form - said Domagoj Dukec, Group design manager - with a front that makes a very clear statement of the road characteristics. The striking vertical grille and the iconic twin headlights create a bold and secure identity ". In fact, the change of pace is very evident in the front, with the double BMW kidney becoming a larger, more squared and vertically accentuated grille so as to extend almost to the lower edge of the front kiss. The mesh structure, the grille, characteristic of the M models to date, the original light units of the new 4 Series Coupe - with LED headlights as standard - also extend fluidly towards the front wheel arches. Adaptive LED headlights with Laserlight are available as an option while cornering light and adaptive cornering functions with variable street lighting are included. At speeds above 60 km / hi, Laserlights increase the range of the high beam to a maximum of 550 meters and dynamically follow the path of the road. The sides of the new 4 Series Coupé are shaped by precise and well-sculpted surfaces. in which the large doors with frameless windows and a flowing roof line stand out which accentuate the elegant appearance of this model. The cockpit - strongly tapered in the rear - and the muscular ends instead accentuate its powerful dynamism. Inside, the newly designed leather seats and sports steering wheel stand out which - together with the coordinated design of the dashboard and the door panel covering - create a wraparound environment for the front seat passengers with the raised center console. The standard soundproofed windscreen further improves comfort over long distances.

At launch, the Series 4 Coupé will offer a choice of five variants, with a particularly powerful version, the 374 hp M440i xDrive, equipped with 48 Volt Mild Hybrid technology, intelligent all-wheel drive and M Sport differential.

'' Truly an exceptional car to drive - commented Klaus Froehlich during the test at the Test Center in Aschheim - which offers a pleasant harmony between the frame and the kinematic chain. And the sturdy body allows for very precise chassis response. '' In addition to the 374 hp six-cylinder in-line engine, it will be possible to choose between two four-cylinder petrol units (184 hp in the new 420i Coupé and 258 hp in the 430i Coupé) and two modern turbodiesels. They are the 190 HP four-cylinder in the 420d Coupé and 420d xDrive Coupé (combined consumption: 4.6 - 4.3 l / 100 km) and - expected for the debut in 2021 - the six-cylinder of the 430d xDrive Coupé and the M440d xDrive Coupé with optimized dual stage supercharging. For the first time in all Coupé model variants there is the eight-speed Steptronic transmission, with the option of changing the steering wheel and new Sprint function. The latest version of the automatic transmission has the task of transmitting the drive torque with even greater efficiency.
