A man was indicted for “aggravated murder” on Tuesday and placed in pre-trial detention after the death of his partner on Sunday in Bourg-lès-Valence (Drôme), indicates the Valence public prosecutor's office.
The man has "a history of violence," said public prosecutor Alex Perrin, without specifying whether the history concerned his partner. "The autopsy has already been performed," added the prosecutor.
She had "major wounds"
According to the released Dauphiné, this 37-year-old woman was discovered seriously injured in a home in a Bourg-lès-Valence home on Sunday evening, "presenting serious wounds that may have been caused by a sharp object". The firefighters failed to save her.
Also according to the local newspaper, his 49-year-old companion, alcoholic and present on the scene, was then arrested.
The case brings to at least 31 the number of alleged femicides since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP count. In 2019, AFP recorded at least 126 cases of women killed by their partner or ex, i.e. a woman every three days on average.
