The individual suspected of having carried out the very severe blows was referred for an indictment for attempted homicide.

A man, suspected of having violently struck another individual who is still in a state of brain death, was brought before a magistrate of the criminal pole of Grenoble (Isère) for an examination by an investigating judge for attempted homicide, report Actu17 and La Provence.

The facts took place Wednesday evening in Gap. The 28-year-old suspect allegedly attacked the other man (40) at his home around 9:30 p.m. The victim "presented numerous bruises on the face but also traces of strangulation of bruises and traces of bites on the forearm," a source close to the investigation told Actu17.

Arrested Monday in extortion case

The victim, immediately hospitalized in emergency at the Timone hospital in Marseille, was then declared brain dead, despite a surgical operation.

The accused individual was arrested the following day, thanks to the analysis of video surveillance images and testimony.

Also suspected of attempted extortion, he was arrested by the police last Monday before being released two days later, said La Provence.

If the motive for the events of Wednesday evening remains to be specified, it would moreover be linked to an uncovered money debt.
