A 52-year-old woman was found dead in Aude and her husband was taken into custody, according to the newspaper L'Indépendant.
The body was discovered in a drainage pipe on Friday morning in the village of Peyriac-de-mer (Aude), on the edge of the Bages-Sigean pond, near the Mediterranean coast. The couple were due to leave for Indonesia, where they were residing, on Friday. The husband, of American nationality, was arrested in the morning at Toulouse airport and then taken into police custody.
Friday morning, the father of the victim, of French nationality, had called the town hall of Peyriac-de-mer, worried not to see the couple arrive who should have visited him in Carcassonne before his departure. The Franco-American couple had an apartment in this village near Narbonne, where they lived a few weeks a year. The mayor went there. When he arrived, the door was open and luggage was waiting.
Shortly after, the body was found in a conduit under Place du Poilu, near the apartment.
An investigation was opened for intentional homicide, entrusted to the gendarmes of the research section of Montpellier.
