A young man was shot dead while driving on the A7 motorway, north of Marseille, during the night from Sunday to Monday. His brother who accompanied him was injured.
Around midnight, emergency services received a call for an injured person on the side of the highway, said Dominique Laurens, Marseille prosecutor.
A black Clio, according to La Provence, was then found a little further riddled with the impact of gunfire. His passenger died of several bullets from a Kalashnikov-type weapon, adds the prosecutor.
The victim, 19, was fatally shot in the chest and face, said a police source.
His 25-year-old brother, who was driving the vehicle, was also hit in the mouth by a projectile, according to the regional daily, but his vital prognosis is not engaged. He was known for drug trafficking.
9th account settlement
The facts occurred between the exit of the North Hospital and that of the city of Arnavaux, according to a police source.
If this shooting turns out to be a settling of scores linked to drug trafficking, it would be the ninth person to die in these circumstances since the beginning of the year in the Bouches-du-Rhône.
