Grenoble: a man killed by bullets, sixth shooting in five weeks

Since June 27, the settling of scores seems to follow one another in Grenoble and its metropolitan area. Investigations are ongoing.

Two days after a man was found dead, shot and killed on Sunday, another fatal shooting took place near Grenoble (Isère). A 27-year-old man died in the night from Monday to Tuesday in Eybens, 8 km away. A little before midnight, he was on avenue Jean-Jaurès in the passenger seat of a car that was riddled with bullets by one or more shooters.

According to the Dauphiné Libéré, the driver, aged 24, was injured. He was hospitalized at Grenoble University Hospital. Another passenger, who was in the back of the vehicle, managed to escape, presumably unharmed.

This is the sixth firearm attack - and the third fatal - committed in Grenoble or its metropolitan area since June 27. Exchanges of fire had broken out in the middle of the afternoon, fortunately without causing any injuries. On July 9, a 22-year-old man was shot dead. The emergency services had not been able to revive him. Three days later, another shooting broke out, leaving one seriously injured.

On Sunday, a man known to the police for drug trafficking was found dead in the street near the Mistral district. His body had three bullets. He had been on parole since March.

All investigations are in progress. Nevertheless, the Alliance police union of Grenoble wonders: “During the confinement, many people were released from prison so we could expect some settling of scores to recover territories. I'm not saying that's the case here, but it could be, ”said Yannick Bianchéri on France Bleu. The coronavirus would not be the only cause: "it has been years that we denounce these facts about Grenoble, that we say that we need human and material resources to stem this violence and harsher criminal responses with incarcerated people, continues the trade unionist. My colleagues have the feeling that they are emptying the sea with a teaspoon because they are called out, but many sentences are pronounced and are not then carried out in prison ”.
