At the very beginning of August, the health prevention messages linked to Covid are now doubled by those, better known, heat wave alerts: hydrate, get news from loved ones, close windows ... Météo France announces in effect a new heat peak for the days to come. Will it be of a nature to beat the records of previous years?
To monitor the evolution of the climate in France and collect data on precipitation and temperatures, Météo France has a large network of meteorological stations in the region. For 1,165 of them, they record the maximum temperature recorded over several decades. The map below shows, by department, the highest temperature recorded between 1945 (1921 for some) and June 21, 2020 in one of its stations.
The record for all resorts combined is held by that of Vérargues, in the commune of Entre-Vignes (Hérault) which on June 28, 2019 recorded
