Eight people, including six French tourists, were killed Sunday by gunmen in Niger, local authorities said.
The attack, perpetrated by men on motorcycles, occurred in the Kouré area in Niger which is home to the last herds of West African giraffes, an official source has learned.
"There are eight dead: two Nigeriens including a (tourist) guide and a driver, the other six are French," said the governor of Tillabéri, Tidjani Ibrahim Katiella.
A good part of the country is classified in red (strongly discouraged) by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs because of multiple dangers linked to clashes and the presence of terrorist groups.
