What protects against flying viruses inside

2020-08-09T05:31:45.591Z

Corona pathogens can hover in the air for hours and accumulate. Researchers are now developing concepts for preventing infections in schools, restaurants and offices.

Some sabotage them, some take to the streets against them. But most people in Germany take the Corona rules to heart. In subways and shops they wear masks over their mouths and noses, they keep a distance of 1.50 meters from others, they avoid large groups, they often wash their hands and sneeze into their elbows.

Is that enough to stop the pandemic? Not at all.

The fight against the virus requires further measures, because it is becoming increasingly clear that the pathogen does not only spread in direct contact from person to person because someone has been coughed up. He's also floating around in the air. And compliance with the minimum distance does not help much.

The virus can sit on microscopic particles with a diameter of a few thousandths of a millimeter. These are partly solid, partly liquid and do not follow gravity. Every person produces such particles permanently in the nose and throat when speaking, even more when scolding loudly, singing and screaming, and to a lesser extent when exhaling normally.
