Kalfon fell ill in the corona and was hospitalized in early July at Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera in the Infectious Diseases Department (Corona Department) with a complication of pneumonia, a heavy cough and a high fever. A day after his hospitalization he updated that he no longer had a fever and nausea but he still suffered from a severe cough that prevented him from speaking. In mid-July he was released from the hospital and announced in a video on his Facebook page that he felt better. "My condition is getting better, I can talk a little bit," he wrote then, "I was in complete silence for two and a half weeks because of the coughs I had, but I can talk. I left the hospital and I am at the Corona Hotel and now I actually have to wait for me to recover completely. Ironically I suddenly thought about "My mother's last name, Coronio, is Corona in Spanish. Crazy. I think the best message that should go through to all of you is that Corona has no differences of religion, race or gender. It hurts everyone. It is a very serious disease that feels like the most diabolical effect you have ever experienced."

In an interview with Dana Weiss over the weekend, Kalfon said of the moment he thought he was about to end his life: "The cough was the main element and in the hospital. At one point, when the attacks came back, I got into a state of shortness of breath. And what goes through your mind is, 'This is, I'm going to die.' I've never felt this thing that I have no air. "
