Indicted in France for four rapes that he disputes, Islamologist Tariq Ramadan will be confronted on September 16 with a Swiss complainant who also accuses him of rape.
This confrontation will take place at the Paris judicial court "in the presence of a French investigating judge and a Swiss magistrate," announces Me Grégoire Leclerc, lawyer for this woman, on Wednesday.
“Finally, my client will be heard by the courts, two years after filing a rape complaint,” he says.
"Mr. Ramadan is impatiently awaiting this confrontation, because the complainant will be faced with her lies and contradictions", reacts Pascal Garbarini, lawyer for the Swiss intellectual.
He "has already denounced these fanciful accusations before the judges and has not been the subject of any prosecution," he recalls.
Interviewed mid-July
Tariq Ramadan, subject to a judicial review which prevents him from leaving French territory, was questioned in Paris in mid-July by the Geneva prosecutor, in the presence of a French examining magistrate responsible for investigations into the French aspects of the case.
He has been accused since 2018 by a Swiss woman of having raped and kidnapped her in Geneva in 2008. "It was simply for Tariq Ramadan to answer questions and deliver his version", had abounded at the end of the hearing Me Philippe Ohayon and Me Nabila Asmane, who also defend him.

Since February 2018, the intellectual has been indicted in France for "rape" and "rape of a vulnerable person", for facts denounced by two complainants, Henda Ayari and "Christelle", respectively in 2012 in Paris and in 2009 in Lyon .
Two new indictments, for suspicion of rape on two women, in 2015 and 2016, were pronounced on February 14.
