And yet, from the first meeting, the question of money arrives on the table at the same time as the bill ... Then will come the rental or purchase of accommodation (alone or in pairs?), Marriage (under what regime?), bank accounts (joint account or separate accounts?) and, of course, the birth of the first child, a decisive step in building the family economy.
However, if we are sometimes obliged to take out the calculator, the subject is still largely taboo.
According to sociologist Hélène Belleau, who conducted a survey of 3,000 couples for her book
L'Amour et l'Argent
(Éditions du remue-household, 2017), 40% of them would never discuss their financial organization.
