Éric Dupond-Moretti proposes lawyer Nathalie Roret, current vice-president of Paris, to the management of the National School of the Magistrate

The National School of the Judiciary will, for the first time in its history, be headed by a woman, the lawyer Nathalie Roret, and for the first time also not from the judiciary, announced on Monday the Minister of Justice.

"I have decided to propose for the signature of the President of the Republic the name of the 17th director, and for the first time in the history of the school, this director will be a director", declared Éric Dupond-Moretti , before welcoming "an exceptional woman, Maître Nathalie Roret, current vice-batonière of the Paris bar".

The former lawyer had mentioned - before becoming Minister of Justice - a suppression of the National School of Magistrates, created in 1958 and from which approximately 350 magistrates come out each year.

"No time" for "a total overhaul"

"I will not have time to make a total overhaul" of the ENM, he said on Monday, "but I am certainly not giving up on opening this school further.

Openness is first of all to break with outdated traditions, it is to break with the temptation of the isolation and the inter-self, it is wanting to think and debate other than between peers ”.

Nathalie Roret, criminal lawyer, was sworn in in 1989 and has been a member of the Paris Bar ethics committee since 2015 and vice-chairman since 2020.

"The richness of her career […] her commitment alongside litigants, particularly in the field of mediation, are the guarantor of the qualities she will express at the head of this school", added Eric Dupond-Moretti, "and I am certain that Madame la Bâtonnière as the new director will be able to implement these new orientations with the Board of Directors ”.
