A few days after the signing of the peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, it turns out that it will also have cinematic significance.
Today (Monday) it was announced that bodies representing the two countries have reached an agreement on cooperation in the field of cinema.
This is, of course, a precedent-setting move that is now resonating in the international media as well.
From the Emirates, this is the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, which needless to say lacks money - and from the local side, the Israeli Film Fund and Sam Spiegel, the Jerusalem school considered the best of its kind in the country.
According to the agreement, meetings and workshops will be held between artists from both sides, with the stated goal of developing co-productions between the two countries, which can promote Israel both financially and in terms of its international status.
Most interestingly, the agreement also speaks of an intention to establish a regional film festival - a move that is expected to attract attention here that has long, if at all, been our lot.
