Over a million dead
The novel coronavirus pandemic has killed at least 1,005,981 worldwide since the WHO office in China reported the onset of the disease at the end of December, according to a report established by AFP from official sources Tuesday.
The United States is the country most affected in terms of both deaths and cases, with 205,895 deaths for 7,186,527 cases.
Brazil follows with 142,921 dead, India with 96,318 dead, Mexico with 76,603 dead and the United Kingdom with 42,001 dead.
Vaccines reserved for poor countries
The World Bank has asked its board of directors to approve additional funding of $ 12 billion to help poor countries purchase and distribute Covid-19 vaccines, funding that will build on programs from emergency intervention that the Bank has already implemented in 111 countries.
One hundred million additional doses of future vaccines have also been reserved for poor countries, according to the Vaccine Alliance (Gavi), which works with the World Health Organization (WHO).
Israel plans to extend its confinement
The reconfinement decreed in Israel until October 11 will be extended after the three weeks previously announced, the Minister of Health warned on Tuesday.

Germany: restrictions for parties and family meals
Germany will limit the number of participants to parties in public and private space depending on the evolution of infections in order to fight against an upsurge in the pandemic, Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Tuesday.
Northern Ireland restricts access to bars
Northern Ireland has ordered bars and restaurants to close at 11 p.m. from Wednesday, following similar controversial measures elsewhere in the UK.
Partial unemployment
In Spain, the government, employers and unions reached an agreement on Tuesday to extend public funding for partial unemployment plans caused by the pandemic until the end of January.
In France, the government announced on Tuesday the extension of partial unemployment to 100% until the end of the year for the hotel, restaurant and café sector.

Economic consequences
The entertainment giant Disney has announced the elimination of 28,000 jobs in the United States, within its activity grouping its amusement parks and cruises, events as well as derivative products, activities whose turnover has plunged by 85% over one year, due to the consequences of the pandemic.
Ireland expects the pandemic to affect its economy less than expected with a 2.5% drop in GDP in 2020, and not 10.5% as its government feared in April.
In Canada, it will take about two years for the economy to recover from the double shock inflicted by the pandemic and the fall in oil prices, a parliamentary report said on Tuesday.
Greece: end of alert on a cruise ship
Greek health authorities "ended the alert" on Tuesday on the first cruise ship to return to Greece from containment, after the results of three tests carried out on the ship's crew were negative.
UN calls for "responsible leadership"
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday called for “responsible leadership” in the face of the pandemic, in a message released on the occasion of the milestone of one million deaths.
“Let's maintain physical distancing.
Let's wear a mask.
Let’s wash our hands ”, he urges, while in several countries anger is mounting against these measures accused of limiting individual freedom.
