Woman killed in Bas-Rhin: her ex-companion who confessed, indicted

He was arrested Monday in Alès, in the Gard, after two days on the run and confessed to the murder after two days in police custody.

The man suspected of having killed his former companion with a knife on Saturday in Wissembourg (Bas-Rhin) was indicted for murder, we learned this Wednesday from the prosecution.

The 50-year-old man was imprisoned.

"If the person recognizes having put an end to the days of the victim, he claims to have acted on impulse," said the prosecution.

The suspect and the victim had been in a relationship for a few months.

The 58-year-old victim had ended it over the summer and had since met another man.

The fifty-year-old, a nursing assistant in an nursing home, was stabbed at least three times in her home on Saturday morning.

His ex-companion, had disappeared just before the facts, by cutting his cell phone and leaving at his home a letter evoking his disastrous ambitions.

Monday, the gendarmes had launched a call for witnesses, in order to find the trace of the vehicle of this 50-year-old suspect, who had maintained for several months and until the summer a relationship with the victim.

This case brings to at least 51 the number of suspected feminicides since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP count.

In 2019, 146 women were killed by their spouse or ex-partner, 25 more than the previous year, according to the latest official figures.
