When asked what is the leading cause of death for women, the majority of women still suspect breast cancer.
However, cardiovascular diseases are six times more deadly: every day, 200 women die from it in France.
And if the progress in care has allowed a decrease in mortality from cardiovascular diseases in general, this masks an inequality between the sexes: at the same age, women hospitalized for this reason die more than their male counterparts.
Worse, the gap is widening among the youngest.
This is all the more worrying as the annual increase in the hospitalization rate of women aged 45 to 54 climbed to 4.8% between 2008 and 2013, according to Public Health France.
