Why is "lock time" so intriguing?

The trauma of the Yom Kippur War hovers like a shadow over Israeli culture from the day it ended until today.

And yet, and perhaps even for this reason - that war experience is hardly a fact for the big or small screen, except for a few exceptions, like Amos Gitai's "Yom Kippur."

Most of the plot works that dealt with it nevertheless focused on the home front, in the days before the war, the shock of the battle and the ensuing mourning, or discussions around it at the top of the command and the political echelon - as did the TV movie "Silence of the Horns".

In contrast, "Lock Hour" seeks to present the war from the point of view of the fighters on the ground, in the midst of the conflict.

Apart from that, this is a series that is backed by several particularly prominent creators, led by director Yaron Zilberman and screenwriter Ron Leshem, who together also created the film "Terrible Days" which dealt with Rabin's assassination and won the Ophir Award.

Amit Cohen ("Doubles") and Daniel Amsel ("Euphoria") also participated in writing the series.

Interestingly, Leshem, who was known for describing the evacuation of Beaufort in the book "If there is also Eden", approached here another war that wounded the State of Israel for decades, and another outpost that was a symbol - this time the Hermon outpost.

The series also aroused interest outside Israel and was sold to Warner's streaming service, HBO Max, where it will air starting in another three weeks.

So, by the way, as in the case of "Tehran", its episodes will not be available on the YouTube channel here 11.

When exactly does the plot of the series take place?

The series opens on the eve of the war and accompanies several combat centers in its early days.

According to the interview given by Lior Ashkenazi to Walla!

Culture, it does not continue to accompany the forces until the end of the war, which lasted about two and a half weeks.

These days were characterized by bitter battles, heavy losses to the IDF, and fear of a crushing Israeli defeat, first and

foremost the

place of the state.

These are the days of Mapai rule, with Golda Meir serving as Israel's prime minister and Moshe Dayan as defense minister.

The prevailing perception in the security establishment and at the political level on the eve of the war was that Cairo and Damascus were not expected to resume fighting against Israel in the near future, after the great victory of the Six Day War.

This all-encompassing concept, which has since been dubbed the "conception," ignored a wealth of intelligence that pointed to unusual occurrences in the Egyptian and Syrian armies.

Therefore, in Israel they did not foresee the intensity of the fire and did not mobilize reserve forces in time, which could change the picture of the war.

This finally erupted at noon on Yom Kippur, October 6, 1973.

Behind the obvious security dimension, the period is characterized by political and social tensions, as well as the activities of radical social change movements such as "The Black Panthers" and "Compass," which are represented in the series.

As a rule, in its first two episodes, the series is accompanied by tensions between Ashkenazis and Mizrahis, and between religious and secular ones.

Yoav's partner, Officer Dafna (Joy Rieger), is at the headquarters and operates from it, while worrying about the fate of Ahuva.
