The Nautilus affair had kept Denmark in suspense for years, until the confession of journalist Kim Wall's killer.
Sentenced in 2018, Peter Madsen had since been incarcerated in Herstedvester prison in Albertslund, where he was to spend the rest of his life, with little hope of ever being released.
This Tuesday, Madsen nevertheless found the outside world, thanks to an escape attempt.
Peter Madsen, 49, was eventually caught by the police some 500 meters from the walls of the prison, according to local press.
After a few minutes of observation, the police fearing that the fugitive was carrying an explosive object, the detainee was arrested.
