You will not believe how much a 5th generation connectivity devours a battery in the iPhone 12

On the eve of the launch of the iPhone, the good news from Apple was a 5th generation connectivity in all the monthly smartphones launched that evening.

Apple chose the link over a faster screen refresh rate, which creates a smooth interface feel.

Now it also turns out the link is wasting battery.

Apple managed to cause a lot of disappointment among the company's fans, preferring to combine the 5th generation link over a screen with a refresh rate of 90 or 120 Hz.

The American technology giant seems to have done this due to battery consumption considerations, and now some of the 5th generation battery-eating connectivity has been revealed.

Smartphone of the year: We tested the RealMe X50 Pro

The test was performed by Tom's Guide, when he launched a dedicated website that adopts the smartphone, while setting the screen brightness to 150 rivets.

Under these conditions, the iPhone 12 held about 8:25 hours on the 5th generation connectivity. In contrast, on the 4th generation connectivity it managed to hold 10:23 hours, i.e. a gap of 20 percent.

The iPhone 12 Pro managed to get better results: 9:06 hours on the 5th generation connectivity, while 11:24 hours on the 4th generation connectivity, meaning a gap of 20 percent.

Compared to the iPhone 11, the iPhone 12 held 53 hours less than the iPhone 11, while the iPhone 12 Pro held one hour longer than the iPhone 11 Pro.

And what about other smartphones?

Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus with 4,000 mAh and 4,500 mAh batteries, respectively, defeated the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro tested at a screen refresh rate of 60 Hz, but lost when the settings were different for use in the 5th generation with a refresh rate of 120 Hz Hertz.

The Google Pixel 5 and OnePlus 8T defeated the iPhone 12 even when they were at a high screen refresh rate, i.e. 90 and 120 Hz respectively.

Apple has already announced that it has integrated an automated mechanism that includes scenarios in which the iPhone can determine for itself when to use the 5th generation link and when not.

For example, if you stream music when the screen is off, it seems that the iPhone will prefer to use the 4th generation link over the 5th generation link in order to save battery life.
