2020-10-28T21:11:47.904Z

The mother of Martine Bertrand, the former commander of the territorial intelligence of the Hautes-Alpes, is devastated. Her grandson confessed

“My daughter is no longer there and her son is accused of her murder.

I lost everything.

I don't understand how my grandson could have done that, ”sobs Lucette Bertrand.

In a few hours, this 77-year-old granny learned of the violent death of her daughter, Martine Bertrand, 57, police officer, former patron of the Hautes-Alpes territorial intelligence.

Then the arrest of her 16-year-old grandson, who admitted in police custody to having killed his mother.

A case revealed by the Dauphiné Libéré.

“My daughter lived 500 m from our home.

My grandson was very close to us, he came to see us almost every day.

We never suspected he could be violent.

Never, never ”, insists Lucette who, despite her immense pain, lets go:“ He remains my grandson.

"

It all started on Monday, when Martine Bertrand's son was arrested by the Briançon (Hautes-Alpes) police officers for a drug possession case.

He is in possession of 30 g of cannabis.

The young boy being a minor, the investigators seek to join his mother.

In vain.

The latter resides in Montgardin (Hautes-Alpes), a small village near Gap.

This is where she enjoys her recent retirement.

The head covered with a plastic bag

At 57, Martine Bertrand left the police in July, after having been notably deputy director of public security at the Gap police station, then commander of territorial intelligence of the department.

Martine Bertrand being unreachable Monday, the Gap prosecutor's office opens an investigation for "worrying disappearance".

Checks are done.

They show that the ex-policewoman has not given any sign of life for several days.

The gendarmes go to his house, lost in nature and isolated at the end of a path, in the town of Montgardin.

They see a big mess at home.

But no sign of life.

From Tuesday morning, excavations resume in the house.

And it is a Saint-Hubert dog who will make the macabre discovery.

The body of the ex-policewoman is between a shutter and a glass door.

Martine Bertrand's head is covered with a plastic bag.

And around his neck there is a dog leash and an electric cable.

No doubt is possible.

It is a murder.

From "worrying disappearance", the investigation switches to "voluntary homicide".

The search section (SR) of the Marseille gendarmerie is seized.

And it is the son of the victim who will very quickly find himself in the crosshairs of investigators.

"She would no doubt have liked to have a son who walks very straight"

The gendarmes note "certain inconsistencies" in the declarations of the minor concerning the disappearance of his mother.

The young boy also has his mother's cell phone with him, but also his bank card.

He therefore becomes suspect number 1. And he will confess.

He admits having killed his mother.

Why ?

It is still the mystery.

The Grenoble prosecutor, Eric Vaillant, who took over the case, does not want to say more for the moment on the minor's statements.

Presented this Wednesday evening to an investigating judge of the Grenoble court, the young man was indicted for the murder of his mother.

The brutal death of Martine Bertrand she has a link with the criminal activities of her son in terms of drugs?

Did the ex-policewoman want to put her son back on the right track?

Did a violent argument break out?

Did the teenager need money to finance the drug purchase?

That will be for the investigation to determine.

Lucette, Martine Bertrand's mother, has no explanation: “I didn't know that my grandson was involved in a drug affair.

He had just told us that he was going to Briançon to see his girlfriend.

Since September, he was in a vocational high school in Embrun.

He wanted to become a carpenter.

He lived alone with his mother.

My daughter was separated, and the father had severed all ties with his son.

Martine didn't tell us too much about her problems.

She was secret.

Perhaps it came from her job as a police officer.

She would no doubt have liked to have a son who walks very straight.

She had repaired an old house in the town, to rent it to vacationers.

She did not have time to enjoy her retirement.
