Hundreds of theatergoers came tonight (Monday) to the Tel Aviv Hall of Culture for an event that was actually a combination of two different events: the Golden Hedgehog Award Ceremony, dedicated to the Fringe Theater and the Independent Theater, and a protest against the freezing of the cultural world during the Corona Crisis.

Due to the situation, this year no awards were given in the regular categories, but awards of excellence were given to seven performances, without categories and without hierarchy.

The winners were honored with statuettes and a grant of ten thousand shekels for each play, and these were given by the Tel Aviv Municipality, the Joshua Rabinowitz Foundation for the Arts and the Elisheva Greenbaum Foundation.

The event featured many actors and artists in game pieces and performances.

Throughout the evening, elements of a lock and necklaces were worn in protest of the closure of halls and worlds of culture.

Actors and creators wore locks on chains hung from the wall of the Hall of Culture, and on the locks appeared the names of the plays, creators and artists who were "locked" outside of artistic pursuits.

In addition, artists appeared in figures of police officers in what appeared to be criticism of the conduct of the police in the demonstrations.

One of the artists chose to appear in a figure resembling the angel of death, which corresponded with one of the speeches on stage, in which it was announced "We have come to mark the dying of the world of culture."

Of course, it is impossible without the artist Zeev Engelmeier, who for a change did not appear in the form of a horseradish but in the form of a pig, and held a sign that read: "Bring back the culture."

Other signs at the event read "Stop playing with us", "Order 8 for cultural workers" and simply "Open".

The artistic director of the Golden Hedgehog Association, Mert Farhumovsky, told Walla!

Culture: "It was clear to us that this year it is not possible to do a regular fringe awards ceremony, it was ridiculous to do it as usual because the theater is closed in March and there are not enough performances. However, broadcasting a ceremony detached from the context is also quite ridiculous. So we were looking for a framework to do it We chose to join the protest and shout the theatrical artists of the theater. Unlike the institutionalized repertory theaters, with the buildings they have to manage, the independent creators can return to perform immediately. That the performances will return to the stages and the audience will be able to see them. "

"Arthur Miller once said that the role of theater is to remind people of what they want to forget," actor Amir Feter, who won an award for his performance of "Oasis," reminded the audience.

"This is what we have engraved on our banner in the fringe community. And this is what we will continue to do from Dan to Eilat - to remind people of what they have chosen to forget, and in this way we will prove to everyone once and for all how much we are!"

The board member of the Golden Hedgehog Association, independent creator Mickey Younes, told Walla!

Culture: "Beautiful and sad here at the same time. Nice that this event is taking place, beautiful to oppose and beautiful that made this square, which is so identified with the repertoire world, identified with fringe and the fringe. But sad that not many people came here, sad that there are not tens of thousands of people here "It's sad that the people from the repertory theater did not come. This was supposed to be the cry of the whole world of culture and not just the cry of the fringe.

Actor Michael Gamliel made similar remarks: "All the repertoire theaters should have been seen here. We saw a wing of the cultural world here and we would like to see all the wings here. Every week 1750 food rations are distributed, including to actors and stage people who lost their livelihoods and some came to turnips. "It is not possible for this reality to occur without you seeing the cry of the entire world of Israeli culture."
