A 24-year-old man was indicted for attempted murder and jailed Tuesday after failing to run into a gendarme while forcing a roadblock a week ago.
He had caused an accident and left three injured in his flight.
Arrested Sunday in Tarascon (Bouches-du-Rhône), three days after the events which took place near Arles, this man was presented Tuesday to an examining magistrate and indicted for "attempted murder" on a gendarme, "aggravated refusal to comply", "involuntary injuries" on three people including two other gendarmes and "attempted escape", said the public prosecutor of Nîmes Eric Maurel.
A refusal to comply for a simple lack of license
"This appalling affair and the accident that will follow begin with a roadblock that is crossed, a refusal to comply for a simple lack of license", underlined Mr. Maurel during a press conference, specifying that on the road block a gendarme had to throw himself to the side to avoid being hit.
The fugitive then caused an accident and caused three serious injuries, near the town of Fourques (Gard).
He would first have collided with a heavy vehicle, which itself would have deported on the road to go and overthrow the two motorcyclists of the motorized peloton of Nîmes after him.
“That night there could have been three or four deaths.
There were three injured, which we do not yet know if they will be able to walk again, we do not know if the bikers will be able to return to work, ”insisted the Nîmes prosecutor.
After the accident, the driver had managed to flee the area thanks to family complicity before being arrested three days later.
