Corona pandemic data in Germany: can we take the curve?

2020-11-25T10:03:10.529Z

On Wednesday, Angela Merkel and the Prime Minister negotiate to tighten the Corona measures. What has the shutdown achieved so far? A look at the key figures on the pandemic.

Visualization of infection and test numbers, the positive rate and the age distribution

Every day, an average of 18,000 new corona infections are known in Germany - more than ever before since the beginning of the pandemic.

At the same time, there is already relief in many places because the rapid growth in numbers seems to have stopped for the time being.

But how is the situation really to be assessed?

Which figures will be the focus when the federal and state governments decide on further measures on Wednesday?

How meaningful are the individual statistics?

The most watched curve in the republic is currently the development of the number of new infections.

The seven-day trend seems to be quite clear here: After very strong growth in October, the number of new infections reported daily is no longer increasing and is currently leveling off at around 18,000.

The latest trend is even slightly downward.

How is the number of new infections to be interpreted?

However, an exact interpretation of the number of infected people and especially small changes is difficult.

Because this number of new infections only includes the reported cases.
