One of the biggest French traffickers, Sofiane Hambli, was once again arrested on Tuesday evening in a street in Bordeaux (Gironde) by investigators from the narcotics brigade of the regional directorate of the Paris judicial police.

He has been taken into custody and officials plan to question him for the next 96 hours about a proposed cannabis import that could have cost him his life.

This 45-year-old man from Mulhouse is known to be the key figure in the investigation into the controversial practices of the Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS) and now renamed OFAST (office anti-narcotic).

The 40-year-old is suspected of having cheated an accomplice in the context of a transaction involving the delivery of four tonnes of cannabis resin between Morocco and Seine-Saint-Denis.

According to the elements collected during the investigation, this operation concerned a sum of 2.4 million euros.

"But the international trafficker would have pocketed the money without delivering the product to his accomplice Sequano-Dyonisien", specifies a source close to the case.

And in the world of traffickers, it is a very expensive thing.

The police are well aware of this and decide, at the beginning of November, after two years of surveillance, to stop the costs before a tragedy occurs.

On November 10, investigators from the narcotics brigade arrested at their home, Kamel, the manager of a garage in Sevran (Seine-Saint-Denis), aged 30, and his girlfriend.

The couple are taken into custody at the PJ headquarters in Paris.

According to our information, the man has already been indicted in 2016, in a case of importing 200 kg of cannabis, from the Moroccan Rif, in Garges-lès-Gonesse (Val-d'Oise).

And he is still waiting to be tried in this case by the court of Pontoise.

Hours of sound have made it possible to understand that he had started to seriously consider eliminating the all too famous drug trafficker Sofiane Hambli, nicknamed the chimera.

"But for the moment this affair is not based on any material element, estimates a source close to the file which recalls that the sound systems and the tapping cannot constitute by themselves the evidence of an assassination project".

A hypothetical real estate investment that would have flipped

During his hearings, Kamel affirms that he was indeed in a business relationship with Sofiane Hambli but within the framework of a hypothetical real estate investment which would have flipped.

His partner could not reimburse him, would have offered him these four tons of resin in exchange.

Kamel was indicted on November 14 in Bobigny for drug trafficking and criminal association.

The suspect was imprisoned in the Villepinte remand center while his partner, suspected of non-justification of resources, was released under judicial supervision.

Contacted, the mechanic's lawyer, Me Emmanuel Marsigny, did not wish to speak on this ongoing case.

During the hours that follow, the investigators will question Sofiane Hambli and compare his version with that of his alleged accomplice.

Tuesday evening, his council, the former informant of OCRTIS Me Hugues Vigier, assures us that he “does not yet know anything about this file”.

“I can't imagine my client being involved in a new drug related case,” he says.

But given his reputation, I would not be surprised if we tried to make him endorse this kind of facts ”.

On October 17, 2015, customs officers seized seven tonnes of cannabis in three vans parked on Boulevard Exelmans in Paris (16th century).

The investigation will reveal that Sofiane Hambli was behind this impressive drug importation and further investigations have shown that the trafficker was operating on behalf of the Office.

After thirty months of detention, in this case, the trafficker was released from prison in October 2018, then he was reincarcerated a month later, after having gone to Spain in violation of his judicial control.

He was released during the summer of 2019 against a deposit of 150,000 euros.
