Gérald Darmanin "renewed" Wednesday his "confidence in the Paris police prefect" Didier Lallement, two days after the muscular and controversial evacuation of a migrant camp in central Paris.
"I renew my confidence in the prefect of police," assured the Minister of the Interior on France 2.
The evacuation Monday evening of several hundred migrants who had pitched their tents on Place de la République gave rise to violence by members of the security forces, whose images were widely shared on social networks .

After receiving "a detailed report" from Prefect Lallement on the operation, Gérald Darmanin on Tuesday asked the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), the "police police", to give him "within 48 hours" the conclusions of its investigation into the violence observed.
"If it is verified, I will take sanctions"
The minister once again denounced Wednesday “totally unacceptable gestures” on the part of “some police officers”.
"If it is verified, I will take sanctions," he promised.
"But I will not condemn all the police and gendarmes who intervened in this square as well as the prefect of police for the acts of a few".
"Those who mess around will be punished, but I refuse to punish all the police," he insisted.

The Paris public prosecutor's office on Tuesday opened two investigations into this violence: one relating to a trip to a migrant by a police officer, the other on the beating of a police officer on a journalist from the online media Brut.
