Actor Dustin Diamond, who played Scratch from the popular series "The Redeemer's Ring," was hospitalized after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, the actor's spokesman confirmed to the American media.
He said Diamond was hospitalized after feeling unwell and was diagnosed with advanced cancer.
The type of cancer was not reported to the media.
"Diamond is undergoing chemotherapy at a Florida hospital so he will stay there for at least another week. We will then see if he returns home," a spokesman said, adding that the actor would make a statement in the coming days.
"Next week we will know better what the severity of his condition is and what treatments he is expected to undergo."
Diamond played Scratch in the series "The Redeemer's Ring" from 1989 to 1993. He also played the same role in the two sequels of the series, "The Redeemer's Ring: The New Class" (1994-2000) and the spin-off, "The Redeemer's Ring: College Years." In it most of the characters went on not only to the same college but also to the same dormitories in college.
"College Years" was canceled after one season.
Diamond returned to the high school where the program took place as the principal's assistant in the episodes of "The New Class," and remained in the program until it was canceled.
