"Where is our sister Diary Sow?"

2021-01-16T16:10:43.715Z

Daouda Mbaye, a Senegalese living in the Paris region and founder of the “Retrouvons Diary Sow” collective, calls on the French authorities

Soon two weeks after Diary Sow's disappearance in Paris, the mystery remains unsolved.

Is this a voluntary disappearance, as certain elements collected by the investigators of the Parisian judicial police might suggest?

Aged 20, the Senegalese student, a student in the second year of scientific preparatory class at the prestigious Parisian lycée Louis-le-Grand, would in fact have vanished by taking personal effects and some clothes.

One thing seems certain, she would have left her student residence on the boulevard du Port-Royal (Paris, 13th art) on January 4, the day of the start of the school year, without showing up for the resumption of classes.

Why would she have voluntarily fled her student universe at this precise moment?

Winner of the honorary title of "best student of Senegal" in 2018 and 2019, the young woman was erected as a model of success by the President of the Republic of Senegal.

The hypothesis of an excessive pressure weighing on his shoulders was studied, according to a source close to the file, without being confirmed in a certain way.

“It doesn't hold water,” replies one of his family members.

Diary has never been stressed by her studies.

She was focused on what she had to do, yes, but it was about positive pressure ”.

Investigation for "worrying disappearance of adult"

On January 3, the young woman returned to Paris after a short stay in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) with one of her best friends, herself Senegalese.

She carpooled the return trip with a young girl who says she didn't notice anything abnormal in her behavior.

Before January 12, Diary Sow had to register for the entrance exam to the École normale supérieure (ENS), PC * (Physics-Chemistry) stream, one of the objectives, along with the École Polytechnique, of this very brilliant student attracted by a career as a researcher in genetics.

Three days after his disappearance, on January 7, an investigation was opened by the Paris prosecutor's office for "worrying disappearance of an adult".

This Saturday, January 16, this investigation, entrusted to the Brigade for the repression of delinquency against the person (BRDP), is still ongoing.

Weaned from precise information, those close to Diary Sow and members of the Senegalese diaspora are starting to grow impatient.

"We are still in this very long wait", let us know one of his uncles, domiciled in Dakar.

"It's been more than ten days since Diary Sow disappeared and we still do not find her", exposes Thierno Fall, this Saturday during a press conference organized in Paris.

Diary Sow has not given any sign of life since January 4./LP/Ronan Folgoas

“Recently, actions have been launched by a set of associations, students and Senegalese workers, continues the president of FESSEF (Federation of Senegalese students and interns in France).

Many people rallied to this fight.

So far, things have not progressed.

The Senegalese authorities, however, wanted to reassure the public by saying that Diary was not found in hospitals or in firefighters.

But we do not find that these elements are sufficient to reassure.

Diary Sow may be in danger right now without being in a hospital.

So this argument seems fairly light to us ”.

"How can they say such a thing?"

A delegation of representatives of associations was however received at the Senegalese consulate in Paris.

But no additional information would have been communicated to them.

What also regrets Daouda Mbaye, founder of the collective “Retrouvons Diary Sow”.

“When the Senegalese consulate lets it be known that the criminal track is not privileged, it leaves us perplexed, slips the young man.

How can they say such a thing?

We are just compatriots animated by a spirit of solidarity, which is why we all left our offices and our homes to go to the streets, distribute flyers, conduct research in Paris and in several regional cities (

Editor's note: Rouen, Bordeaux, Poitiers and Montpellier

).

But today, the support committee is reaching its limits.

After all the efforts we have made, we cannot go beyond… ”

Visibly affected, Daouda Mbaye pauses and then resumes: “We do not know where Diary Sow is and we are dismayed by this situation.

And the more time passes, the more the anxiety rises.

Now, the only question we want to ask the French and Senegalese authorities and our ambassador is:

where exactly is our sister Diary Sow?

Some believe they have seen her in Lyon, Paris or Belgium.

But none of these testimonies have so far allowed to locate the young woman.
