A 26-year-old man was indicted and remanded in custody on suspicion of causing the death of his two-month-old baby after shaking him, the Reims prosecutor's office said on Friday, confirming information from the daily L ' Union.
“He admitted to shaking the baby sharply twice.
He felt overwhelmed.
He is indicted for willful violence on a minor under 15 years of age resulting in death without intention of giving it, ”explained the public prosecutor, Matthieu Bourrette.
“The facts allegedly took place around January 13.
It is the mother who, seeing the state of health of her baby deteriorating, took him to the University Hospital of Reims on the night of January 13 to 14, ”added the magistrate.
The infant died there on January 16 from intracranial and cephalic injuries.
The mother totally out of the question
The hospital immediately reported the incident to the Châlons-en-Champagne prosecutor's office, which opened an investigation first entrusted to the police at the Epernay police station where the couple resides.
The latter was placed in police custody for forty-eight hours in this police station.
“The mother was completely out of the question,” said Matthieu Bourrette.
He emphasizes that the father, without a criminal record and well integrated socially, admitted to sometimes behave "impulsively" and "angry", especially once towards his partner.
