The 3-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries at the end of September in Conches-en-Ouche (Eure). His mother and stepfather were promptly indicted and remanded in custody. Since then, investigators have been trying to understand how this usual abuse and violence could have happened to the little girl, but also to her older brother, without it being reported. Two school principals have been indicted for failing to report abuse, the prosecutor's office said on Monday.
They are "the director of the kindergarten where the little girl was educated as well as the director of the primary school where her older brother (aged six), who was also a victim of abuse, was educated," said the public prosecutor of Évreux, Rémi Coutin, on Monday.

At the time of her death, the little victim had multiple bruises of different ages on "the face, all four limbs, the chest, the back, the pubis," Rémi Coutin said at the time of the events. She "would not have been in school the week before the tragedy".
'Violence that is difficult to sustain'
"Neither the gendarmerie, nor the justice system, nor the child welfare services had been informed" of the "violence that was difficult to bear" suffered by the little girl, Rémi Coutin added. The stepfather and mother were known to the courts. The headmistress of the kindergarten, where the girl was enrolled in the middle section, had been suspended as a precautionary measure.
