“Real carnage.”
In two nights, between Saturday January 13 and Monday January 15, a breeder lost 135 of his ewes and lambs after two attacks by stray dogs in the town of Lavaurette (Tarn-et-Garonne), report our colleagues from La Dépêche du Noon.
A first attack took place during the night from Saturday to Sunday, as Nils Passedat, breeder of the herd but also mayor of the town, tells our colleagues.
“I went to the sheepfold early, around 4:30 a.m., when I discovered this massacre,” he testifies, counting 90 corpses of sheep and lambs.
“A net loss of 30,000 euros for my farm”
Panicked at the time of the attack, his animals fled and took refuge in a breeding tunnel before suffocating to death.
During the night from Sunday to Monday, again: a new attack by stray dogs took place and caused the death of 45 ewes and lambs.
“I lost 135 animals in two days, it’s a net loss of 30,000 euros for my farm,” confides Nils Passedat, who lost half of his livestock in the space of two nights.
The gendarmes went to the scene to observe the facts, reports La Dépêche du Midi.
Agents from the ONCFS (National Office for Hunting and Wildlife) and the OFB (French Office for Biodiversity) were informed, in particular to certify that it was not an attack by wolf.
No trace of the animal has been found and Nils Passedat claims to have heard dogs barking around his farm.
