There is a risk of a collapse in sales: the end of the environmental bonus could cost money
At least this is the assessment made by the Duisburg
Center Automotive Research (CAR)
, which puts the savings from eliminating the environmental bonus at 510 million euros.
However, only on the condition that electric car sales do not collapse, as the

With a minus of ten percent, the savings would shrink to 350 million because the lost VAT also has to be taken into account.
How important the environmental bonus is became clear after the funding was cut off for commercial customers.
At that time, sales fell dramatically.
A similar scenario would actually put additional strain on the state treasury if sales fell by 42 percent.

experts explain that the lost VAT would exceed the savings by around 176 million euros .
With a minus of 32 percent it would be a zero-sum game.
CAR experts expect lower savings from environmental bonuses
“In our view, the federal government made the wrong decision by canceling the environmental bonus for electric vehicles,” emphasize the authors.
The CAR experts therefore expect only small savings as a result of the end of the funding.
