At Hyundai, electric cars run under the Ioniq sub-brand.

The latest model is the Ioniq 6, which we were able to examine in the version with a 77 kW battery in everyday life.

The electric Korean is flat.

So flat that the streamlined body not only enables the very good drag coefficient of 0.21, the current best value for the Korean manufacturer, but also visually shows what electric mobility of the future can look like.

Futuristically designed interior with touchscreen and buttons

The interior is also futuristic.

The dashboard in particular has a futuristic design, as do the doors.

As a result, the function buttons for window regulators, which are usually placed in the doors, have been moved to the center console and those for rear-view mirror adjustment have been moved next to the steering wheel.

The interior has a futuristic design, but there are still real buttons to press.

As is now common practice, most functions are controlled via a central touchscreen.

Fortunately, there are also real buttons in the ultra-modern Hyundia Ioniq 6 that you can press, for example for the air conditioning.

What's original is that the spacious glove compartment in front of the passenger seat opens like a drawer.

There is enough space for four adults.

Only tall people complain about the limited headroom in the back seats.

The aerodynamic body takes its toll here.

Maneuverable and easy to steer thanks to electronic assistants

The 4.85 meter long and 1.88 meter wide Hyundai is very maneuverable and easy to steer.

There are many useful electronic helpers available for maneuvering.

The rear view camera deserves special praise, as it displays a good image even in bad weather.

Nice gag: You can also record voice notes using a corresponding function on the touchscreen.

A nice back: But you have to do without the rear window wiper.

The trunk of the notchback sedan doesn't exactly hold a generous 405 liters of luggage, the frunk under the front hood has another 40 liters of storage space.

The Ioniq 6 is also suitable for vehicle to load, which means household appliances can be connected to the car and then draw their power from its battery.

Or you can plug the cooler, electric grill and sound system into the Hyundai while on the go for a picnic.

In winter the Ioniq 6 can travel over 400 kilometers

Despite wintry temperatures during our test, we achieved a range of a good 400 kilometers with a 100 percent charged 77 kW battery.

In the summer you will probably still miss the maximum range of 614 kilometers specified by Hyundai, but you will still come quite close to it.

During our journeys we usually kept a respectable distance from the top speed of 185 km/h.

Thanks to 800 V technology, the battery was quickly filled again.

Under optimal conditions, it took around 20 minutes for the battery to charge from ten to 80 percent.

Thanks to 229 hp and 350 Nm of torque, the Korean electric car impressed with its superior performance both in city traffic and on relaxed cross-country journeys or in daily commuter traffic.

The snow driving program took the fear out of wintry road conditions in the rear-wheel drive car.

In addition to all the praise, there is also a bit of criticism: you have to do without a rear window wiper on the trunk lid, which is also not very easy to load, and the Korean is weak when transporting luggage due to the narrow loading compartment and the somewhat awkward folding down of the rear seats.

Unfortunately, some of the buttons on the dashboard, which are generally praiseworthy, are not illuminated and are therefore difficult to see in the right light.

When driving without any highway component, i.e. with a maximum of 100 km/h and many recuperation options, we almost achieved the WLTP value of 14.3 kWh/100 kilometers specified by the manufacturer with 15 kWh/100 kilometers - and we didn't even have to switch to Eco -Switch mode.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 thus confirms its strong performance in the ADAC EcoTest.

With a higher share of motorways, which were usually not traveled faster than 120 km/h, consumption leveled off at just under 20 kWh/100 kilometers.

No extras for the top version

Hyundai states the price for the Ioniq 6 in the version we drove with rear-wheel drive and the Uniq equipment package at 60,200 euros; the basic version is listed at 43,900 euros.

With the top equipment, almost no extras can be ordered - and they are not necessary.

Our model only had metallic paint as an additional option, which costs 660 euros.

With the Ioniq 6, Hyundai is consistently following the path of electromobility.

Its characteristics, the extraordinary design and the performance are certainly suitable to convince skeptics and inspire Stromer fans.

It is seriously doubtful whether this will happen with the new electric car that was recently presented by a Russian university.
