He had fled to Dominica.
A man suspected of being the perpetrator in March 2022 of a shooting in Guadeloupe was finally arrested by the GIGN and imprisoned for murder, we learned on Friday from the Pointe-à-Pitre prosecutor's office.
The shooting, which occurred during an outdoor birthday party in Baie-Mahault, a town located in central Guadeloupe, left one dead and at least three injured.
The fugitive was arrested on December 21 in Guadeloupe during an operation by the GIGN (national gendarmerie intervention group) in a home located in Abymes, on the island of Grande-Terre, then in possession of "a handgun and a substantial quantity of narcotics,” said the public prosecutor, Caroline Calbo, in a press release.
Indictment
Presented before the investigating magistrate after his arrest, he was “indicted for murder and attempted murder and placed in pre-trial detention,” she said.
The young man killed during the shooting, aged around thirty, was “unfavorably known to the police,” public prosecutor Patrick Desjardins said at the time.
Under the direction of the Pointe-à-Pitre public prosecutor's office, a flagrant investigation was entrusted to the research section of the Pointe-à-Pitre gendarmerie.
“The numerous and careful investigations carried out made it possible to identify a suspect, who fled to seek refuge in Dominica,” recalled Caroline Calbo in her press release.
A judicial investigation was then opened.
At the end of December 2023, the investigation made it possible to determine that the fugitive had “returned to Guadeloupe for a few days” during the end-of-year holiday period, favoring his arrest.
