Mercedes-Benz wants to sell all of its approximately 80 dealerships in Germany and, to this end, the Stuttgart carmaker intends to start talks with potential new operators.
The website of the German newspaper Bild writes this, quoting a Mercedes spokesperson who underlined that the group is not in financial difficulties.
"This possible reorganization is carried out from a position of strength, since the Group's subsidiaries are profitable," said the spokesperson, specifying that the car showrooms to sell employ 8,000 people.
There will be no layoffs but it is not excluded that the buyers will ask for pay cuts.
It is not the first time that the Stuttgart automotive group has sold dealerships: "the company has already taken this step in numerous other European countries", recalls Bild.
The experience gained "reinforces" the decision of Mercedes-Benz, which states: "All showrooms are still in operation, customers receive excellent service and the workforce has contractually agreed on job security even after the transfer of activities."
