The Nürburgring Nordschleife is a challenge.

Accordingly, it is a popular test track.

A new electric record shows the potential of the Porsche Taycan.

The Nürburgring Nordschleife is considered one of the toughest race tracks in the world.

In addition to the legendary 24-hour race, the manufacturers are also chasing records here.

When it comes to electric cars, a duel has broken out between Porsche and Tesla.

In 2021, the Texans led the hunt for times in the Eifel.

Just a year later, the sports car manufacturer from Zuffenhausen followed suit.

In 2023 the record went back to the USA.

A reaction from Porsche followed promptly and shows the potential of the Taycan.

Porsche Taycan completes the Nordschleife in record time: 26 seconds faster than in 2022

With a pre-production version of the electric athlete, test driver Lars Kern burned a lap time of 7:07.55 minutes into the asphalt of the Green Hell.

An improvement of almost 30 seconds compared to the last record run in August 2022. “26 seconds is half an eternity in motorsport,” explains series manager Kevin Giek.

“This puts the Taycan in the range of electric hypercars.”

The Rimac Nevera, which holds the record with 7:05.298 minutes, is only two seconds away.

Compared to the Tesla Model S Plaid Track Package (7:25.231), the Porsche Taycan was almost 20 seconds faster.

However, since this is a pre-production version, the Texans retain the record for the fastest electric production vehicle on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring.

Electric record on the Nordschleife: Porsche Taycan consistently fast

How extreme the improvement in time is becomes clear when you compare the position on the track.

When the pre-series Taycan crossed the finish line in the area of grandstand 13, the Turbo S had only just passed the entrance to the Nordschleife during the record run in August 2022.

In a direct comparison, the distance would be 1.3 kilometers.

But that's not all: the Porsche Taycan proved to be very consistent during the test drive through the Green Hell.

“Lars achieved almost the same time on several laps,” emphasizes Giek.

Porsche plans to publish a video of the entire lap with onboard recordings in mid-March.
