The megalodon, not that terrifying? The reputation of the sea monster undermined by researchers

Hollywood will have to look for a new shark to play the role of the "megalodon" in the future. The new film "In Troubled Waters" is due to be released in France on September 25th. The film is based on the book "The Megalodon: The Rise and Fall of a Great White Shark" by Michael Hiltz.


In the cinema as in scientific literature, this prehistoric fish is often presented as a stocky predator with an insatiable appetite.


He is the main character of the film “In Troubled Waters” and the sequel to this blockbuster, released last August in French cinemas: he is the megalodon, an animal that is actually extinct.

It is often depicted as a gigantic version of the great white shark, with all that is terrifying for those traumatized by “Jaws”.

But researchers now say that the big fish was not as stocky as we thought... Rather slender, and much less terrifying.

Worse still, Phillip Sternes,

lead author of the study published this Monday in the journal Palaeontologia Electronica, assures that the “Meg” did not murder everything that moved, was quickly satisfied and did not need to hunt all over.

Hollywood will have to look for a new sea monster.
