Greta Gerwig entered the pages of history this year, when she became the first director to single-handedly lead a blockbuster that crossed the billion dollar mark.
More precisely, it brought in almost 1.5 billion dollars, becoming one of the most successful films of recent years.
Is that enough to get an Oscar nomination?
According to the academy, no.
"Barbie" did receive eight Oscar nominations, including in the best film category, but not in the director category.
Margot Robbie, who played Barbie, was also pushed out of the list of best actresses.
On the other hand, Ryan Gosling received a nomination in the supporting actor category for his role as Ken.
And who are nominated in the directing category?
Four men of course - Martin Scorsese ("Killers of the Moonflower"), Christopher Nolan ("Oppenheimer"), Yorgos Lanthimus ("Such Poor People") and Jonathan Glazer ("Area of Interest").
Only one director is nominated - the French Justine Trier, for "Anatomy of a Fall".
As expected, the web was filled with angry reactions that Gosling was nominated but Gerwig was not.
"Maybe this is an oversimplification, but these nominations prove why we are not now in the eighth year of Hillary Clinton's presidency," wrote concerned citizen Brian Behr.
"No nomination for Gerwig? Is it real"?
Tweeted author Stephen King.
"The Oscars have always been systematically racist, and this is an extreme example of patriarchy," added Dr. Zoe Ayers. "It's absolutely absurd," wrote social activist Charlotte Clymer. whose starting point, as I recall, is women who are oppressed by the patriarchy.
Gosling yes, Robbie no.

Ryan Gosling, who did receive a nomination, did not celebrate it but instead stood alongside Gerwig and Ruby.
"There is no Ken without Barbie, and the movie 'Barbie' would not exist without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, who were more responsible than anyone else for this movie, which made history and was celebrated all over the world. No one in this movie would have been recognized without their talent, courage and genius. To say that I am disappointed that they were not nominated would be an understatement."
Other commenters pointed out that "Barbie" was nevertheless honored with eight nominations, including Gosling, America Ferrera in the supporting actress category and also Gerwig herself, along with her partner Noah Baumbach, in the original screenplay category.
There were also those who commented: the fact that they are outraged that Gerwig is not nominated as a director and ignore the fact that she is nominated as a screenwriter, shows the audience's continued disdain for the importance of script work.
And also: the reactions that the Academy preserves and exaggerates its patriarchy ignores that for the first time in history, the Best Picture category includes three films directed by women - "Barbie", "Anatomy of a Fall" and "A Whole Life" by Celine Song.
The directing category is crowded and competitive and includes only five places.
Is it possible that "Barbie" was pushed out of it for a simple reason: the voters simply thought that Gerwig's directing work was less good than that of Justin Trier and Christopher Nolan, for example?
In any case, now the chances of "Barbie" and Gerwig winning the original screenplay prize are getting stronger, if only as compensation.
