Highlights: The “Rambo des Cévennes” tried for a double assassination. Valentin Marcone shot his boss and a colleague in Les Plantiers (Gard) before hiding out, armed, for four days in the forest. 350 gendarmes, aided by Saint-Hubert dogs, tirelessly comb the area when, around 7:15 p.m. this Friday, May 14, 2021, the madman emerges from a hole and presents himself to them, hands in the air. “Excuse me, I surrender,” says a visibly weakened Marcone.

The hum of helicopters resonates above the Cévennes forest, while below, 350 gendarmes, aided by Saint-Hubert dogs, tirelessly comb the area when, around 7:15 p.m. this Friday, May 14, 2021, the madman emerges from a hole and presents himself to them, hands in the air.

“Excuse me, I surrender,” says a visibly weakened Valentin Marcone, thus putting an end to an 83-hour hunt.

A run as meaningless as the double assassination which had led him, four days earlier, to go into hiding.

On Tuesday May 11, while taking his job at the sawmill in the village of Plantiers (Gard), shortly before 8 a.m., the 29-year-old young man coldly killed his boss Luc Teissonnière, 54, and his colleague Martial Guérin, all by sparing Vincent, another employee.

A murderous impulse that the “Rambo of the Cévennes”, as he was nicknamed, will immediately recognize, justifying it by a futile motive tinged with a delusion of persecution.
