On Wednesday, the Besançon public prosecutor's office indicted two individuals, a prison inmate and his partner, aged 21 and 20.
They allegedly supplied heroin to two people who died of overdoses.
The passage of drugs at the heart of the investigation
The accused prisoner was notably indicted for “manslaughter” and “drug trafficking”, before returning to prison.
His partner, aged 20, is being prosecuted for "illicit delivery of an object to a detainee" and "possession and transport of narcotics", the deputy public prosecutor of Besançon, Christine de Curraize, told AFP. confirming information from France 3 Franche-Comté.

The young woman admitted to having sent a package to her companion in the visiting room of the remand center, but she maintains that she was unaware that it contained drugs, specifies the magistrate.
Two overdoses caused by heroin
His companion then allegedly recovered the drugs and sold the heroin to two other men, who were found dead in their cell some time later.
These victims, aged 34 and 36 respectively, were discovered unresponsive on December 29.
They would likely have been victims of taking a combination of drugs and heroin.

The first detainee had fifteen entries in his record and was imprisoned for domestic violence.
He could have been released next July.
The second was incarcerated for destruction by dangerous means.
