Deutsche Bank has tax returns from Donald Trump. The US president has kept these documents secret so far. Whether the bank has to hand over the documents as required by the US Congress is still open. Since the Democrats have taken the majority in Congress, they are trying to force the publication of the documents.
The Frankfurt bank wrote in a statement to a US appeals court that it had tax returns. The communication, in which the names of the individuals or companies concerned were blacked out, was related to a hearing of the court on the subject last Friday. The bank declined to comment. A lawyer of the Trump family was initially unreachable.
In the US, it is a tradition for the President to provide the public with insight into their finances. Trump rejects this. He and his children Ivanka, Eric and Donald Jr. are defending themselves legally.
Debt of 130 million dollars
In the spring, a court ruled that Deutsche Bank and the US institute Capital One are required to submit documents to the US Congress. The lawyers Trump and his family appealed, arguing that there was no legitimate basis for documentary inspection.
Deutsche Bank had indicated that it would comply with the request of the court if it had a lawful verdict. As Capital One wrote in a letter to the court, the Trump does not have tax returns.
Germany's biggest money house had given Trump, who was still working as a real estate entrepreneur, before his presidency high loans. Many other institutes had not done that anymore. According to documents Trump owes the Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas at least 130 million dollars in connection with real estate projects.
