Anyone traveling with light hand luggage can use a new express lane at the security checkpoint at Cologne / Bonn Airport from 1 September. According to the report, the Federal Police is testing the new control lane in Terminal 1. It is "intended for travelers who only fly with a small piece of hand luggage". A carry-on trolley is not one of them, rather it is about passengers with a small object, a laptop bag or a smaller backpack (up to 20 liters).
"The one-hand luggage lane should work according to the principle of a fast-payment service," said the Federal Police. "The smaller number and smaller size of baggage allowed makes individual checks faster." Since the new lane is operated in addition to the usual controls, there is no disadvantage for the passengers. The test should take several months and be evaluated regularly.
At the Hamburg and Frankfurt airports, a new system is already in use at the security checkpoints with which waiting times are shortened. At the entrance, three passengers can sort their hand luggage at the same time, remove fluids and computers and hang up . The two new tracks are much more efficient than the previous ones, said the Federal Police in Frankfurt in February.
