DAMASCUS, (SANA) - Syria and the Republic of Belarus on Tuesday signed seven documents to enhance cooperation in the fields of investment, media and finance

Syria and the Republic of Belarus signed seven documents to enhance cooperation in the fields of investment, media, higher education, agriculture and health at the end of the seventh session of the joint committee of trade, economic and technical cooperation held at the Sheraton Hotel in conjunction with the Damascus International Fair.

The two sides agreed during the meetings to review and evaluate the legal frameworks governing the bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields and affirmed their common interest to activate these frameworks and to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries on a practical and effective basis and exert efforts to accelerate the completion of the necessary internal procedures.

The signed documents included a memorandum of understanding between the Syrian Foreign Trade Organization and the National Center for Marketing and the Study of Belarusian Prices and a memorandum of understanding between the Syrian Broadcasting Corporation and the Belarusian National Radio and Television Corporation to promote radio and television cooperation and another between the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education and the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences. Memorandum of Understanding between the Syrian Investment Commission and the National Authority for Investment and Privatization of Belarus to enhance cooperation in the field of investment.

The signed documents also included the executive program on technical and scientific cooperation in the field of agriculture between the Syrian Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform and the Belarusian Ministry of Agriculture and Food, and on animal health cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform and the Belarusian Ministry of Agriculture and Food, in addition to the Executive Protocol of the Road Map for the Agreement between the Syrian Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture. Belarusian health in the field of production and mutual use of medicines, medical equipment and instruments signed in Geneva in the fifth month of 2016.

The two sides pointed out the necessity of exerting all possible efforts to expand and increase trade exchange, expand the commodity exchange between the two countries and enhance cooperation and coordination to exchange information and technical expertise in the field of free zones and mechanisms of developing their work.

The Syrian side expressed its interest to continue working with the concerned Belarusian authorities in order to sign memoranda of understanding between the Syrian Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and the Belarusian Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare for cooperation in the field of labor and social welfare and between the Syrian Ministry of Public Works and Housing and the Government of the Republic of Belarus.

The technical committees of the committee, which represents a number of ministries and institutions from both sides, discussed over the two days topics related to cooperation in the fields of agriculture, industry, trade, health, social affairs, labor, communications and transport.

In a statement to reporters after signing the protocol of the meetings, the chairman of the committee from the Belarusian side, Minister of Industry Otionin Pavel Vladimirovich, confirmed his country's interest in reaching an agreement between Syrian and Belarusian businessmen, where it was agreed to hold a meeting of the Syrian-Belarusian Businessmen Council before the end of this year and send Syrian children to Belarus and provide scholarships. For undergraduate.

For his part, the chairman of the committee from the Syrian side, Minister of Public Works and Housing Suhail Abdul Latif stressed the need to continue and intensify the work to cover the past period between the sixth and seventh sessions and follow up the implementation of what has been agreed on the ground and accurately.

The documents were signed by Dr. Nizar Yazji, Minister of Health, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, Minister of Higher Education, Assistant to the Minister of Public Works and Housing, Director General of the Syrian Investment Authority, Director General of the General Organization for Foreign Trade and Director General of the General Organization for Radio and Television, and members of the Committee on the Belarusian side.
