China's Ministry of Commerce announced that it has filed a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against the United States after the latter imposed an additional tariff on $ 300 billion worth of Chinese imports.
In a statement issued by the ministry, the tariffs imposed by the United States on Sunday by 15 percent violated the consensus reached by the two heads of state on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, expressing China's strong opposition to such tariffs.
China will vigorously safeguard its legitimate rights and interests and firmly adhere to the multilateral trading system as well as the international trade system in accordance with WTO rules, the statement said.
The United States has imposed additional tariffs, which went into effect on Chinese products worth billions of dollars in a new chapter in the series of reckless trade war initiated by US President Donald Trump, ignoring the many warnings about the possible negative repercussions on the US and global economies.
