The boss of the Japanese Renault partner Nissan, Hiroto Saikawa, resigns. This was reported by the Japanese carmaker after a meeting of the Board of Directors. He had asked Saikawa to resign with effect from 16 September. Saikawa had agreed. A successor should be found by the end of October.
Saikawa was after the sacking of former Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn as chairman of the board under pressure from the Japanese to lead the company from the bottom. Following the arrest of Ghosn, the Franco-Japanese car alliance between Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi was in a serious crisis.
After a sharp fall in profits, Nissan had announced in late July to delete about every eleventh job. Renault, which owns the French state, holds a 43.4 percent stake in Nissan and plans to merge with the Japanese, but the Nissan leadership has so far refused.
In Germany, Nissan has no production, in this country, the car maker is represented only with a sales subsidiary.
