Long-distance trains every 30 minutes, Wi-Fi also in the Intercity, more places in commuter trains: Deutsche Bahn wants to shift more traffic to rail according to its new corporate strategy. Symbol for this is to be a new exterior design of the ICE fleet.
CEO Richard Lutz and the federal rail commissioner, Enak Ferlemann, have presented one of the newly designed trains in Berlin. "The fact that train driving means active climate protection can already be recognized by looking at the trains," the company announced.
And the first glance shows: Instead of red gracing now green stripes on the sides of the high-speed train, also an implied plug. This should show that all long-distance trains since 2018 with 100 percent green electricity on the road, said the railway. "All 280 ICE trains will receive green stripes as the symbol of climate-friendly rail on the first and last cars." According to the company, Deutsche Bahn saved around 1.4 million tonnes of CO2 last year by switching to green electricity.
The basis for the new Group strategy is a 170-page paper entitled "Strong Rail", which Lutz presented to the Supervisory Board in June. The German company draws a line under earlier international expansion plans. Everything that the railway does is aimed at strengthening the railway in Germany.
