Potential health threat: consumer advocates continue to warn about lye in beer

2019-09-10T21:22:28.084Z

A type of beer from the brewery Franken Bräu could contain detergents. Already in August, the manufacturer had problems with his product. Now the brewery is extending its recall.

The consumer protection authorities warn against a contaminated beer of the brewery Franken Bräu. Remains of cleaning agents have been found in the beverage. Reason is a technical defect of the "control device of our bottling plant", as the brewery announced. This concerns bottles with the expiry dates 5 May 2020 and 6 May 2020. They could contain residues of detergent (lye).

A health hazard and a strong taste impairment can not be ruled out, the manufacturer said. The recalled goods will be replaced at the place of purchase or directly by the brewery. The beer was sold according to the internet portal lebensmittelwarnung.de in Bavaria, Hesse, Saxony and Thuringia.

Already at the end of August, the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety published a communication on contaminated beer from the brewery on its portal lebensmittelwarnung.de. Brewery from Mitwitz (Kronach district) claims to have returned 30,000 bottles.

The public prosecutor Coburg had announced to examine the case.
