Travelers at Munich Airport have to be prepared for delays during the day. The reason is a safety margin. A man had entered the security area unchecked in the morning, whereupon the police evacuated parts of Terminal 1. Several departures were stopped.
The man had gone through an alarm-protected door and not as required by the security check, informed the Federal Police. All passengers had to be checked again.
Affected by the approximately one-hour blockade were two areas of Terminal 1 at Germany's second largest airport: the modules B and C. How many flights were delayed, a spokeswoman for the airport could not say. Due to the temporary blockage, however, there may still be delays, according to a tweet from the airport.
Not the first safety margin of this kind
Whether the uncontrolled man was found was unclear. Meanwhile, the federal police tweeted: "We have released the affected areas back to operation."
Due to the temporary suspension, there may still be delays. Thank you for your patience! https://t.co/qwvkaY48AF
- Munich Airport (@MUC_Airport) 13th September 2019In recent months, similar incidents have already occurred. Just two weeks ago, a passenger at Munich Airport had passed through an emergency exit door in an area where only controlled passengers were allowed to enter. The Spaniard had flown from Thailand to Munich and wanted to change to a plane to Madrid in Munich. As it later turned out, according to federal police, he had no bad intentions.
Great chaos broke out at the start of the summer vacation last year at the international hub, when a woman came unchecked into the security area. The Federal Police stopped handling at Terminal 2. More than 300 flights failed. More than 30,000 passengers were affected over a whole weekend.
