Skilled labor shortage: Spahn recruits in Mexico Caregiver for Germany

2019-09-18T11:19:50.316Z

In Germany, carers are missing, but in Mexico, even well-trained staff find no employment. Federal Health Minister Spahn therefore advertises locally for specialists. Around 100 are already in Germany.

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) will recruit nurses in Mexico in view of the lack of care this Friday. Mexico currently has an oversupply of well-trained nurses.

It was about offering those people a chance in Germany who would not have a chance to get a job in Mexico, despite their good education, said Daniel Terzenbach from the executive board of the Federal Agency. 100 nurses from Mexico have already arrived in Germany.

For the past five years, the Federal Agency has been trying to bring not only academics but also non-academic professionals from non-EU countries to Germany in order to curb the shortage of skilled workers. Through such special programs 3600 contracts have been concluded in the period - 2100 people are already in Germany. The rest is still being prepared, for example with language courses.

Terzenbach pointed out that the recruitment programs that exist, for example, for the Philippines or Tunisia, comply with strict United Nations standards. It's about fair and sustainable recruitment. "Both countries must have something like this."
