Ten percent cheaper: railway lowers ticket prices in long-distance transport

2019-09-20T13:49:33.984Z

Just in time for the timetable change, the ticket prices at the Deutsche Bahn change. But instead of going up this year, it is going downhill - as soon as the VAT is lowered.

Fares for long-distance rail transport of Deutsche Bahn are expected to fall by ten percent. That applies, as soon as the planned VAT reduction for the long-distance traffic comes into force, said a railway spokesman. The usual price increase at the end of the year will therefore not exist.

The state-owned company also announced that it would purchase 30 new high-speed trains from the end of 2022 onwards. One expects with annually five million additional passengers by the planned tax cut.

The Federal Government had agreed on Friday to make rail travel cheaper and flights more expensive for more climate protection. VAT on long-distance train tickets is expected to fall from 19 percent to 7 percent today.
